Invisible Harvests traces two pairs of hands — one present, one remembered — through the fragmented instructions of inherited recipes. The film approaches animation itself as fermentation: slow, transformative, beneath the surface. Working with decayed 16mm film, salt, dried kombucha SCOBY, and simmering ferments, it follows what is passed down through generations even when transmission breaks.
Stephanie Dudley
A Toronto-based filmmaker, she works in stop-motion animation, analogue cinema, and material-driven processes. Her practice employs tactile methods including fermented and decayed 16mm film, hand-printed and scanned texts, and macro photography. Her latest short film, Invisible Harvests, took 10 years to complete. It is a poetry film about saudade, a beautiful yearning for what is absent or lost. It will screen in official competition at Annecy 2026.
