Clément Thoby
ILLUSTRATOR · ANIMATION CINEMA
Clément Thoby was born in 1991 and grew up in Nantes. He studied applied arts in Paris, at the Estienne school and later at the Institut Sainte-Geneviève. He then specialized in animation cinema at EMCA Angoulême. Passionate about color, he worked for five years as a set designer and art director for animation productions, before turning fully to illustration. His work consists mainly of landscapes made with colored pencils, inspired by his travels, real or imagined.
He is represented by: Tiphaine (FR), Brilliant Artists (UK/IE), Garance (USA/CA), Pinzle (KR). He has exhibited in solo and group shows in Paris (Artazart, Inventaire), Oslo, Brest, Beijing, and Montréal, including “Horizons” and “Treees” (2021) and “Aux Îles” (2023). He illustrated “Walden ou la vie dans les bois” (Reliefs Éditions) and “Aux îles” (Actes Sud), and in 2023 won the Grand Prix de l’Illustration Contemporaine at Puces de l’illu. He now works with international media — including The New Yorker, The Guardian US, Le Monde, Die Zeit, and New York Review of Books — creative agencies, and global brands.
