Spine
(Croatia, 2025, 4’21)
A drawing girl starts feeling a sharp pain in her back and tries to abate it by stretching. Despite her best efforts, the pain doesn’t wane and her frustration starts growing. Her movements become grotesque and more brutal, and her body grows more and more tense. When the pain still doesn’t stop, the girl suffers an emotional breakdown. Utterly broken, she sits back down at the table.

Marta Margetić was born on the 23rd of October 2001 in Zagreb. In her childhood, she has participated in many artistic workshops and competitions for children. Her love of art and filmmaking has followed her through her adolescence and made her want to pursue an education in animated film. In 2020 she had begun studying at the Animated film and new media department of the Academy of Fine arts in Zagreb to get a Bachelor’s degree in Animated film. She had successfully finished her Bachelor’s degree in 2023 by making her first animated short film “Fish food” and enrolled into the Master’s program. She’s currently a second-year student Master’s degree student at the Animated film department of the Academy of Fine arts in Zagreb and has made two animated short films, “Fish food” in 2023 and “Spine” in 2024.
