Sonya Umanski, Alika Levinson

Sonya Umanski is an animator, born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design graduate. Her work captures everyday moments with simple lines and whimsical designs, blending humor and subtle irony. Sonya’s art, influenced by her experience of migration, explores themes of identity, adaptation, and the female experience. She also delves into family relationships in her work. ”Loss” is her graduation film co-directed with Alika Levinson.

Alika Levinson is an illustrator and animator who graduated from Bezalel Academy. Two years ago, she established the art space “BEZDNA” in Jaffa, which is still in operation today. Her artistic approach involves blending the absurdity and grotesqueness of the external environment with the vulnerability and sensitivity of the characters she creates. Along with Sonia Umansky, she co-directed the short animated film “Згуба/Loss”. The film depicts the protagonist’s nightmare during anesthesia, caused by a breach of trust and tranquility by the doctor, resulting in a strange and surreal journey through the girl’s subconscious during surgery.
