In 2040, at the abandoned Lake Messejana, a pair of herons desperately searches for a safe place to nest and protect their eggs, as a massive construction project brings workers and heavy machinery dangerously close.

Diego Maia (1983) was born in Fortaleza, Brazil. He has worked for over two decades in the film, video game, and animation industries. He is the director of the short films Barra Nova and Lake Messejana (selected at Annecy 2026).
