Albastı tells the story of a controversial female demon hiding in caves somewhere in Turkey. This mythological creature is considered either a benevolent spirit assisting pregnant women during childbirth or, conversely, a malevolent force causing miscarriages. Popular belief stems from ancient Mesopotamia: legend has it that Albastı was a marginalized midwife capable of terminating unwanted pregnancies.

Imge Özbilge is a director and visual artist whose work blends surrealism, mythology, and miniature art. With a multicultural background spanning Austria, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Belgium, her cinematic voice is shaped by a rich variety of cultural and artistic influences. Her directorial practice is rooted in research. Özbilge’s films have been celebrated on the international festival circuit. In 2017, her short film Camouflage was officially selected at the Cannes Film Festival.
