THE WINNERS OF THE TWENTIETH EDITION OF IMAGINARIA, THE FESTIVAL DEDICATED TO AUTHOR’S ANIMATION CINEMA HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED: “ICE MERCHANTS”, “PERSONA”, “IF OWN I HAVE” AND “MUSSELS AND FRIES” AWARDED
The winners of the 20th edition of Imaginaria, the Festival of auteur animated films, were announced yesterday evening during the official awards ceremony at the Cloister of San Benedetto. All the prizes of the twentieth edition of Imaginaria were handcrafted in every part by the Polignano artist Peppino Campanella. With these words, the artistic director of the event Luigi Iovane greeted the audience, thanking “all those who made this dream possible: from the staff to the volunteers, from the Municipality of Conversano – in the persons of the Mayor Giuseppe Lovascio, the Councilor Caterina Sportelli and of all their collaborators – up to the Puglia Region, the Apulia Film Commission and Mibact. Thanks to the exceptional work of the juries of this edition, and above all thanks to the entire audience of enthusiasts, curious and insiders, who have made this exhibition alive and full of suggestions, interventions and participation. It is a good recovery after the break related to the pandemic and I thank you from my heart. We look forward to seeing you in 2023, at the 21st edition of Imaginaria.“
João Gonzalez’s Portuguese ICE MERCHANTS triumphs in the International Short Film Competition category. The jury – made up of Anca Damian, Paul Wenninger, Miljana Dragičević, Eugenia Gaglianone and Maicol & Mirco – awarded the work with the following motivation: “The classic relationship between father – son, gutted countless times, is told in a new and surprising way. A technique, a rhythm, a stunning twist, capable of arousing intense emotional involvement. Absolutely fascinating is the integration of a current theme, such as that of climate change, used here to describe the inner storms of humanity “. Special mentions, on the other hand, to MENAGERIE by Jack Gray (USA, 2022, 4’25), and to GRANNY’S SEXUAL LIFE by Urška Djukić and Émilie Pigeard (Slovenia, 2022, 13’40).
For the Graduation Short Film Competition, on the other hand, PERSONA, by Sujin Moon wins: the jury, composed of Ahmed Ben Nessib, Michele Bernardi and Luigi Tassinari, awarded him for a work that “divides reality with a clear cut, light and shadow. The struggle between one’s personality and one’s hidden ego. Original in its treatment, far from modal contamination. Black and white, divergences and convergences. PEOPLE we are all of us ”. Special mentions also for this category: to GIRLS IN THE WATER by Shi-Rou Huang (Taiwan, 2021, 7’20) and RAICES by Maddalena Brozzi, Sara Moschini and Laura Cagnoni (Italy, 2022, 07’34).
The jury of the Graduation Short Film Competition also awarded SE PROPRIO DEVO by Mara Cerri, for the Music Video section, with the following motivation: “Visual, oral, written reports. This music video finds its poetic figure in simplicity. Daily glimpses, the soccer field, the open construction sites, the shutters. A delicate black and white accompany a mature and thoughtful piece of music. A video designed and made with the heart. ” “Thank you for your words, I am very happy – said Cerri, present on stage to receive the award – I thank the label” My love does not die “and the author Giacomo Toni, who made this song”. Also for the Music Video category, special mention to “SOLANCE IN STRUCTURE” by Donato Sansone.
For the Children’s Short Film Competition, on the other hand, the young jurors Victoria Sanna, Arianna Grasso, Carola Manganelli, Angelica Ligorio, Nikol Palokaj, Giulia Giannuzzi, Anna Chiara Zupone, Giovanni Marangelli, Domiziano Savino, Noemi Rizzo, Sofia Bufano and Marco Valerio have entrusted the victory at MUSSELS AND FRIES by Nicolas Hu “for the determination that the protagonist demonstrates in following her dreams, in never giving up”. Two special mentions: Footsteps on the Wind by Maya Sanbar, Gustavo Leal and Faga Melo, for the music, and Where the stone will fall by Beatrice Pucci, for the animation technique.
