My Love Affair With Marriage by Signe Baumane (Latvia/USA/Luxembourg, 2022, 108’ v.o.s.i.)
The songs and fairy tales Zelma listened to as a child convinced her that love would solve all her problems, as long as she met society’s expectations. Growing up, however, Zelma realized that something was wrong in the concept of love: the more she tried to behave according to her customs, the more her body seemed to resist. This film tells a story of acceptance of the rebellious side of the female soul. Preview at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and Jury Mention at the Annecy Animation Festival. My Love Affair With Marriage blends animation, music, theatre, science, photography, 3D set design and traditional hand-drawn animation to tell the story of an energetic young woman in search of perfect love and a lasting marriage.

Of the hundreds who venture out, few arrive at their destination: the secret will be revealed only to 6 of them: to the hoopoe who guided them (but she too will have to learn something first); to the 4 birds who lived the Love experience of as many human characters while travelling; more than a sixth, the most awkward and improbable of all.
